Equality Activists Wanted!

Equality Activists Wanted! Equality Budgeting Campaign, in association with the Irish Feminist Network. Do you want to do something about the inequalities present in Ireland today? Are you a woman between the ages of eighteen to thirty? If so, register as an equality activist today. You will receive: •	Workshops on practical activism skills such as P.R., political lobbying, social media and direct action. •	Seminars and information on equality budgeting. •	Your transport costs covered. •	A chance to meet other like-minded young women. •	An opportunity to make a real difference! What is equality budgeting? Equality Budgeting is a practical measure which ensures that all tax increases and cuts are equality-proofed before they are implemented. This means that any government budget decisions must not unfairly impact any marginalised group in society. How do I sign up? There are forty spaces available for Equality Activists. Email irishfeministnetwork.org Our First Event. Our first event will be a seminar on approaches to equality in policy-making. It will be held in the National Women’s Council of Ireland offices on Parnell Square, on Saturday April twentieth, from eleven to four thirty. To find out more, please visit www.equalitybudgeting.ie or www.irishfeministnetwork.org .

"A chance to meet like-minded young women."

So men need not apply for the role of Equality Activist? Just plain ridiculous.

I am concerned that you have targeted your request for activists at the age group 18-30. As an expert in equality, I think it is unwise to sub-segregate one of the groups covered under equality legislation and in so doing create further discrimination by discriminating on the age ground. Many women such as myself champion the cause of equality in our working and personal lives and indeed we face further inequalities because of other equality grounds/demographic factors. to give an example - a woman in her 40s who is a single parent of an adopted child from another country faces multiple barriers to full equality (gender, age, race, family status) and yet might have a lot of life experience and knowledge to offer your cause (that's me I'm describing!). This is meant to be in the spirit of constructive feedback, thanks Sile

Hi Sile,

The funding for this training was obtained through the Women's Fund, which has one particular focus on young women and leadership, hence the age and gender restriction. It is hoped that through the training young women will become more active in economic and political equality campaigns, areas in which there is a lack of young female participants. Of course, anybody is welcome to become active on the equality budgeting campaign and indeed within the IFN. I myself as a young woman am very inspired by, and learn much from, older and more experienced feminists and activists. We would encourage solidarity between all ages and genders here in the IFN. Hope this answers some of your concerns. Thanks for your feedback - Colette.

If you guys were anyway honest you would at least replace the disingenuous 'equality activist' title with a women's' right activist.

Funny how one needs funding to be an 'activist' these days.

Hi Bob,

The Equality Budgeting Campaign is fighting inequality along the nine grounds on which discrimination is unlawful - gender, civil status, family status, age, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and membership of the Traveller community.

Why don't you take a look at the Equality Budgeting Campaign site - www.equalitybudgeting.ie .

This specific training programme mentioned on the poster above is funded by The Women's Fund, which has a particular focus on young women and leadership.

You are most welcome to engage with the Equality Budgeting Campaign, and to come along to the seminar this Saturday. All ages and genders welcome.

Apologies for any confusion,
Colette
